How to use it

  1. Choose what you want to place — bed, door, window, mirror, desk or wardrobe.
  2. Click the grid to drop the item into position. Click a placed item again to remove it.
  3. Read the score and the conflict list. Each conflict names the specific traditional rule and what to change.

What the bedroom layout generator checks

The generator tests five geometric relationships. None of them depend on which way your room faces, which means they work on day one, before you have measured a single compass bearing.

  • Door-to-bed alignment. A bed lined up with the doorway lets qi travel straight at the sleeper. This is the single most common bedroom conflict in modern housing, where builders put the bed on the axis of the door.
  • Bed-to-door distance. Rest needs distance from circulation. A bed pressed against the entrance never settles.
  • Mirror-to-bed alignment. A mirror on the axis of the bed bounces light and qi straight back at your head while you sleep.
  • Bed-to-window relationship. Daylight, drafts and noise on a sleeper work against rest. Traditional practice wants the bed on a solid wall with the headboard supported.
  • Command position. The best bed lets you see the door at an angle without being directly in front of it.

Everything the tool reports maps to a rule explained in our bedroom layout guide and the bed direction chart.

How to use the result

Start with the highest-scoring conflicts — usually the bed position — and fix those before touching anything else. Then re-run the check. Geometry is only one layer: once the layout is settled, add the compass layer with the flying star calculator and the luopan direction finder.

A score of 85 or above means the layout follows the classical rules with no significant conflicts. Below 45, work through the list from top to bottom — several of the fixes are free and take under five minutes.

Why the bedroom is the first room to fix

You spend roughly a third of your life asleep in the bedroom, and a third of your life awake in it if you work from home. It is also the room where the furniture arrangement is most constrained, which is why it produces the most repeated conflicts.

Bedroom qi is directly tied to rest quality, which is why feng shui practitioners treat the bedroom as the highest-return room to correct before spending money on charms or renovations. Fix the geometry first — it is free — and only then add remedies.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is there a feng shui bedroom layout generator that is really free?

Yes. This one runs entirely in your browser with no account, no email capture and no payment step. The grid, the scoring and the analysis all run locally in your browser, so nothing you enter is sent anywhere.

Does the layout generator also check feng shui directions?

No, and that is deliberate. The direction layer needs a real compass reading from your front door, and it changes the answer. The generator covers the geometric rules that are direction-independent, then points you to the flying star calculator and the direction finder for the compass layer.

What grid size should I use?

The grid is 8 by 8 cells. Treat a cell as roughly one to two feet, or about half a metre. The tool checks relationships and distances rather than exact dimensions, so approximating your room is enough to get an accurate conflict report.

My score is low. What should I change first?

Move the bed first. Almost every low-scoring layout has the bed on the door axis, which is a single move that usually resolves two or three conflicts at once. Then deal with the mirror, then the window.
